The merger of Friends Of County Animal Shelters (FOCAS) with your Rancho Coastal Humane Society was a great leap forward in our continuing efforts to better serve people and animals.
It was a natural progression. Both RCHS and FOCAS began when groups of dedicated pet lovers and friends joined together to save the lives of animals and to educate the public.
How does the merger of FOCAS with RCHS benefit the animals?
RCHS President Jim Silveira explains, "We're continuing this partnership with the three County Animal Shelters and we're also expanding the FOCAS Program. Now we also take dogs, cats and bunnies from Chula Vista Animal Control, El Centro Humane Society, The San Diego House Rabbit Society, and sometimes from other parts of the country or the world. When they have more animals than they can hold, we work together to help them create space. The animals deserve it."
RCHS is a limited admission shelter, which enables us to keep adoptable animals until they can be placed with their new families. Each of the dogs, cats and bunnies is given a "second chance" for adoption, and a new opportunity to find a loving home.
