We are telling Newman’s story backwards

Each month we tell you about a pet who needs medical care. You’ve helped to get hip surgery for a dog named Nami, our first ever knee surgery for a cat named Edgar, and lifesaving liver surgery for a four month old puppy named Tessa.

Newman’s story is different. Last month Judi Sanzo, President of your Rancho Coastal Humane Society, told a lady visiting RCHS, “Newman is a wonderful dog and we feel challenged to make him well enough to become someone’s furry companion! Right now, his movements are limited and we are working hard to keep him comfortable.”

Newman’s story touched her heart. She offered to help pay for Newman’s medical care. (There were some happy tears at RCHS that day.)

A few weeks later Judi told the donor, “The new orthopedic surgeon has determined that the right shoulder and both ‘elbows’ will be surgically repaired in this procedure. I have an estimate of $4,500 for the surgery and post-operative procedures.”

Then came this reply:
I was able to send $3,500, which is short $1,000 for the surgery. I can do more next month…”

Newman’s surgery went well. He returned to RCHS and kissed every staff member. We’re trying to keep him calm and prevent him from putting too much weight on his front paws. The surgeon is recommending underwater treadmill therapy and we are looking into making those arrangements. Our thanks to all the donors who are helping us pay for Newman’s surgery-related expenses, physio-therapy and continued care.

“OMG, this just melts my heart. He is getting such good care and it sounds like
everyone is doing the best possible for him! I’m so happy and I so hope it all
continues on a good note for Newman. We did adopt our Meeko that day instead, but we always have Newman in our hearts.”

Sometimes the pet who needs you most is not the pet you adopt. Newman is perfect for someone. He will find his perfect home, thanks to the kind family who adopted Meeko.

While some stories are more dramatic than others, your donations to your Rancho Coastal Humane Society’s Medical Fund are saving lives and helping to place pets in their forever homes every day.
