Big Tex reached out his paw and touched her heart

Last month in Fetch we told you about Big Tex. He’s the 95 pound dog who makes friends everywhere he goes. Big Tex is the campers’ favorite at your Rancho Coastal Humane Society’s summer Animal Camp. When he appeared on the America Trends TV show, Big Tex plopped himself down on the interview couch and kissed show host Aimee Fuller, only pausing to roll on his back so Aimee could rub his tummy.

He’s one of those big dogs who has no idea he’s a big dog.

Shortly after Tex was transferred to RCHS from another shelter through our FOCAS program, we detected a limp. Big Tex had a ruptured ligament in his leg that needed surgery.

When he seemed to lose his appetite, we discovered that he had a tooth that needed to be pulled. There were also problems with his rabies vaccine and a skin condition.

In many shelters across the country, dogs like Big Tex don’t stand much of a chance. They don’t know that pain isn’t normal. They just want to love and be loved.

We asked for your help. We told you that Big Tex needed medical care and it wasn’t going to be cheap.

You responded. Ten dollars from one donor. Fifty from another. We didn’t have the money we needed when we scheduled his surgery, but we took a leap of faith.

Then Judi’s phone rang. The caller told her that Big Tex touched her heart. She wanted to make a donation to your Rancho Coastal Humane Society’s Medical Fund to pay for the rest of Big Tex’s leg surgery.

She asked about the tooth, the vaccinations, and the skin condition. Then she told Judi she would pay for it.

We can’t tell you her name. We can tell you that Big Tex will get all the treatment he needs. The treatment he should have already had. The treatment he deserves. The treatment that will change his life and the lives of his new family.
