History Repeats Itself – Even while we grow

A student asked the teacher, “Why do we have to study history? What good will it do?” The teacher replied, ‘We study history so we don’t keep making the same mistakes.”

Your Rancho Coastal Humane Society studies history to see how we’ve grown!

That’s happening a lot lately with our Animal Safehouse Program. For example, here’s part of the message from a video we created in 2011.

They’re beaten physically. They’re verbally abused so the bruises don’t show, but the damage is just as severe for the victims of domestic abuse. Even when abusers turn their violence against family pets it still leaves emotional scars on the human victims and their children. They may not even know that their pet was kicked until they arrive at the emergency veterinary clinic. Sometimes they arrive too late.

RCHS President Jim Silveira reminds us, “ASP is still the safety net for the pets of domestic violence victims.       Since we created that video seven years ago, ASP has grown to help so many others during the times of their lives when they needed us most.”

Today ASP provides temporary care for the pets of active duty military and veterans. We’re contacted by families in-crisis who just need us to take their pets for a week while they get back on track. There are seniors who need our help while they receive medical treatment.

Jim says, “While saving the pets of domestic violence victims is still the cornerstone of ASP, we’re proud of the programs history and how we’ve grown to help more people than we ever thought possible when ASP began in 1997.”

We all know a victim of domestic violence or someone else who needs either temporary or permanent care for their pet. Now you also know how ASP can help.

There is never a charge to ASP clients. That’s why we rely on you. Your donations pay for the safety net. Your generosity saves live.
