This is where you normally read a letter from the President of your Rancho Coastal Humane Society. After 19 years, Jim Silveira stepped aside to join his family’s business. His successor is longtime Board Member, Judi Sanzo. The RCHS staff wants to let you know what we think about the changes.
First, we wish Jim all the best. Whether it’s the staffers who have been here a few months or others who have been working with Jim most of those 19 years, we’re happy for him. Jim has joined the Board of Directors on the same day as Judi’s appointment so he remains part of the RCHS family, and we will continue to see him at RCHS events.
Judi has been one of our most active board members for 5 years. It’s not as if a stranger walked in one morning and announced, “Hi. I’m the new boss.” Nope. We know Judi and we already liked her before any of these changes began.
- Judi and her husband unloaded crates when the Wings of Rescue flights landed in San Diego. It’s a stinky mess. It’s one of the most rewarding things we do. It’s also one of the nastiest jobs we do. Judi and Mitch were in the middle of it.
- A newspaper reporter asked about her history with animals. Judi told her, “My husband and I currently share our home and our lives with three rescue dogs. We focus on special needs Yorkies, those that are hard to place because of health, age or behavioral issues. We adopted a dog from RCHS with congenital heart disease and a six-month prognosis. Martha was with us for TWO wonderful years!” (One of our volunteers calls Judi “The Real Deal.”)
- About a month ago, Judi was helping volunteers and staff build cages to be used in the pre-released rehabilitation for ducks, birds and squirrels for your RCHS San Diego Wildlife Center. She told us, “RCHS relies on the strength and commitment of volunteers and staff. Amazing things happen here every day.”
Judi doesn’t know we’re writing her letter. She’ll see it when you do. You deserve the straight story. We like her. She’s the best fit for the job. She shares our vision that “Every Animal Deserves a Tomorrow” ® at your Rancho Coastal Humane Society. (She should because she trademarked it for us!)
Judi is beginning complimentary Estate Planning seminars sponsored by your RCHS Legacy Society. Guest speaker is Jeff Isaac. You’ve seen Jeff on TV. He’s “The Lawyer in Blue Jeans.” No pressure. Just information. The first one was held on Wednesday morning, May 30th. If you’re interested in attending one of the seminars in the future, e-mail Kelly at [email protected] or call 760-519-8721.
