Sometimes “Thank You” is Spelled “ZZZZZZZZ”
We’ve run out of fingers and toes to count the number of times your Rancho Coastal Humane Society has received generous donations from our friends at RescueBank® operated by GreaterGood.org.
The donations usually consist of several tons of cat or dog food. They trust RCHS to distribute the food to the hundreds of registered, non-profit, animal rescues and other organizations that assist families with pets throughout Southern California.
We usually look at the donations based on how many pet meals there are and how many rescue pets will go to bed with full tummies. With the most recent donation, we’re judging the success based on all the pets who will be resting comfortably and, as the old saying goes, sawing some logs while they sleep.
Twenty-six pallets of pet beds of all shapes and colors, folding pet toy boxes, and belly wraps for dogs arrived at RCHS a few weeks ago. Just as we’ve done with hundreds of tons of donated pet food, these supplies from PetSmart were distributed to registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit animal welfare organizations throughout Southern California on a first come – first served basis.
The shipment included an estimated 540 pet beds, 1,800 folding pet toy boxes, and 1,150 dog belly wraps. The supplies were free to non-profit rescue groups. They are asked only to share in the shipping costs which RCHS pays in advance.
RCHS spokesman John Van Zante says, “We’ve distributed pet supplies from Rescue Bank and Greatergood.org many times. This is the first time we’ve had pet beds.”
RCHS President Judi Sanzo says, “Many rescues struggle to pay full price for pet supplies. With these donations they pay only for shipping. The beds, folding boxes, and belly wraps were free. The money they save can be used for spay/neuter, veterinary services, and anything else they need to provide care until the pets are adopted.”
Judi says there are more than 200 rescue groups in San Diego County alone. “All of their animals deserve proper care. GreaterGood.org and RescueBank trust us to carry out their intentions for the donation.”
