Spring Cleaning, Taxes, Final Exams. . . .

We know that these are not our favorite things, but the announcement that the tax filing deadline has been extended to May 17th should provide you with some relief. While you’re getting your tax paperwork in order, preparing for finals or dusting off that shelf where you stacked papers you might need, Rancho Coastal Humane Society (RCHS) wants to encourage you to do one more thing this Spring. Protect your loved ones and your pets and give yourself peace of mind:  Create your will in 20 minutes or less – for free!

Unfortunately, we see it all the time.  Pet parents pass away with no plans for their beloved pets.  At RCHS, we encourage everyone to please take advantage of our FreeWill program.

Our online estate planning resource is safe and secure, and the FreeWill program helps you write a legal will that you can print and bring to a notary for signature.

If you’re still wondering whether you need a will, consider some of the common misconceptions:

  1. I don’t have an “estate”! You don’t need to own a castle to need an estate plan. It’s important to have a plan for the things that matter to you—like who might take care of your pet(s).
  2. I’m too young to make a will. Whether you’re eighteen or eighty, a will is an incredible expression of kindness for the people and causes you care about, and you don’t want to be stuck without one.

The FreeWill program will help you create a binding California revocable trust, and this program also can be used to name your FAVORITE charity as a beneficiary. Know that a gift to RCHS is completely optional, but we hope you consider joining our supporters by making a legacy that supports the animals in our community, forever.

Don’t wait!  It is never too early to plan ahead while supporting Rancho Coastal Humane Society and the companion animals in our shelter, in our community and in your kitchen.
