Pet Loss Support Program

Losing a pet can often bring unbearable sadness and grief and we understand these feelings can be overwhelming.

Rancho Coastal Humane Society (RCHS) has created the Pet Loss Support Program (PLSP) to help you through this difficult time.

Our support calls provide a safe space to share feelings of loss and the variety of emotions that are experienced during times of grief.

One-On-One 20 Minute Phone Sessions

Available with our grief counselors from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. on the following dates:

In-Person Pet Loss Support Group

Held from 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Vivian’s Learning Center, located at RCHS (389 Requeza St, Encinitas CA 92024) on the following dates:

Alana Evans LCSW, APHSW-C, CGCS

(Grief Counselor for One-On-One Phone Sessions)

Alana Evans received her Master of Science in Social Work from University of Texas at Austin and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California. She has an Advanced Palliative and Hospice Social Work Certification and is a Certified Grief Counseling Specialist. Alana brings over 15 years of experience to her work as the Director of Bereavement Services at Hospice By the Sea and as a Grief Counselor at Rancho Coastal Humane Society, as well as a Guest Instructor at the Shiley Institute for Palliative Care at CSU San Marcos. The unparalleled bond of unconditional love and companionship we share with our pets can result in devastating heartache, isolation, and pain when we lose them. It is an honor to accompany in navigating through this loss to find healing.

Arlana L. Scola, MATS

(Grief Counselor for One-On-One Phone Sessions)

Arlana received her Master of Arts in Theology from Bethel Seminary.  She has 15 years of experience as a hospice chaplain and grief counselor.

Arlana is also the founder of a nonprofit that worked with youth and horses for many years and this offered another opportunity for loss support as she journeyed alongside those young and old that experienced the loss of a beloved animal.

Arlana has a passion for supporting others through the difficulties of loss, grief, and bereavement.

Sally Hawkins

(Grief Counselor for In-Person Group Sessions)

Sally received her Masters Degree in Social Work from Louisiana State University with an emphasis on medical social work. She has 8 years of experience in Hospice Care and has served in various roles that include Medical Social Worker and Grief Counselor. Sally also has worked as a Registered Behavioral Therapist helping children on the autistic spectrum and has been a Research Assistant

in the field of marine biology.

Sally’s long connection to grief and bereavement counseling as well as her deep connection with a wide variety of animals throughout her life has informed her heartfelt passion for providing support to those mourning the loss of their beloved pets.
