Stepping up for Kitten Season. A Foster Tail… or “Fail” Award Favorite

April has been a standout kitten foster since she joined the RCHS Foster Family in 2024. Since then, April has welcomed a total of 44 kittens and two mamma cats into her incredible foster home. April goes above and beyond when socializing her foster kitties, keeping the Foster Team in the loop about any successes or concerns, and helping each kitten’s unique personality shine brightly in the eyes of potential adopters by submitting amazing foster notes and kitten photoshoots.

April is also highly praised by our RCHS Medical Team! When taking on challenging medical cases, she stays in close communication, which is greatly appreciated! The team shared that they can always count on April to catch her kittens’ symptoms or unusual behavior early, and she never fails to stay on top of her foster appointments and treatments, which are sometimes scheduled unexpectedly.

This kitten season, April accepted one such challenging medical case: a bonded pair of kittens that she appropriately named Outlaw and Oakley. While Outlaw is a playful, adventurous and rambunctious little boy, his sister Oakley is a mellow girl, often opting for quiet cuddles and independent play. Oakley came to RCHS from one of our rescue partners with a corneal ulcer on her right eye. It was severe enough that an enucleation (removal of the right eye) was the only option. This surgery requires a minimum recovery of 3–4 weeks. April was with Oakley every step of the way as she helped this sweet girl learn to see her world through a new perspective and gain confidence.

After caring for this sweet pair of siblings for so long (approximately 2 months in total), April decided to make things official by adopting Outlaw and Oakley! We don’t view so-called “Foster Fails” as a failure in the slightest. We are elated whenever an animal is adopted into a loving, forever home. This is a huge “Foster Success” for the animals, foster families, and the entire RCHS Team!

Thank you, April, Outlaw and Oakley! Your story is so inspiring to all of us.
