Our Current Crushes of the Month – September 2021

Leonidas – Call him “Leo” for Short

https://rchumanesociety.org/leonidas/

Leonidas (some of our volunteers and Animal Care staff shorten his name to “Leo”) is the Fetch Dog Crush of the Month. He’s a 2-year-old, 76-pound, male, Pit Bull/ Hound mix. Leo is very handsome!

It’s been almost a year since he left a crowded shelter in Louisiana. He was transferred to Rancho Coastal Humane Society through our FOCAS (Friends of County Animal Shelters) Program.

Leo was adopted, then returned when the family’s other dog didn’t want to share her humans. The family described him as “unbelievably cuddly and gentle.”

He needs an active family that will continue his positive reinforcement training. Leo will do best when he gets lots of exercise and has a yard. It would be terrific if his owners have experience with big, strong dogs.

The $145 adoption fee for Leonidas includes medical exam, neuter, up to date vaccinations, registered microchip, and a one-year license if the adopter lives in the jurisdiction of San Diego Humane Society’s Department of Animal Services.

Miso – Sweet and Spicy

https://rchumanesociety.org/miso/

Miso is the Fetch Cat Crush of the Month. She’s a 5-year-old, 13-pound, female, Domestic Short Hair cat.

Miso is going on two years with us! Miso was transferred to Rancho Coastal Humane Society from a rescue partner in Riverside County through the Friends of County Animal Shelters (FOCAS) Program. At first, she was a guest in the Cattery where she got her nickname of “Queen Miso” because she was the ruler of an indoor room and one of the enclosed outdoor rooms.

For the past few months, Miso has been living with one of our trained foster volunteers. Here’s how her foster parent describes Miso: “She is sweet and will be your office buddy and follow you from one room to the other. She is also spicy in that she wants things done a certain way.” Aren’t we all a little sweet and spicy at times!

Miso has some allergies which are easily managed through diet and medication. Please consider being Miso’s forever home. The $100 adoption fee includes medical exams, vaccinations, spay, and registered microchip.

Help us Clear the Shelters! Beginning this month, RCHS will be sending many of our long-term animals, like Leonidas and Miso, home with a Fresh Start gift basket.

These baskets will include toys, training treats, special food, supplies and, for some, professional training packages. Please visit SDPets.org/FreshStart for more details.
