Summer Animal Camp and Really Happy Tales at Rancho Coastal Humane Society

Recently, our Humane Education Department launched the Happy Tales reading program at your Rancho Coastal Humane Society (RCHS). Once each month children ages 6 – 12 come to the shelter and read to the adoptable dogs, cats and rabbits. It’s good for the children and the animals love it!

Humane Educator Lizzie Hart tells us the next Happy Tales event is coming up this Friday, April 26th from 4 to 5 PM at RCHS. If your little animal lovers want to participate, you need to sign them up right away. There’s a limit of 8 children per session. The cost is only five bucks.

If this Friday doesn’t work for you, you’ll want to register for the next Happy Tales on Friday, May 24th.

First time readers need to participate in a one-time Happy Tales orientation. Closed-toed, rubber-soled shoes are required. Mom or Dad (or another adult) need to stay with their children during the reading. The kids can bring their own books or borrow books from the Humane Education library. They can bring their own pillow, blanket, or towel to sit on or use a carpet square provided by RCHS.

Last month, we also reminded you to get your kids registered right away for Summer Animal Camp. Here’s what happened since then.

The first session, “All About Our Pets,” for 6 to 12 year olds is full.

The last session, “Wildlife Among Us,” for 6 to12 year olds is full.

Lizzie has a waiting list in case of cancellations.

One week of the middle session for 11 to 14 year olds, “Animal Keepers,” is also full. Lizzie still has openings for the weeks of July 15 – 19, July 22 – 26, and August 19 – 23.

We’re teaching lessons in humanity to the children who will become tomorrow’s leaders.
