Chelsea Shares Her RCHS Adoption Story

I was on the way home one day, and had a real hankering for some puppy love, and as luck would have it, Rancho Coastal Humane Society was on the way, naturally. I was strong, I told myself I was only there to look, scratch behind some ears, perhaps get some licks, but no way was I getting a dog, I was only going to browse. There I am, happily wandering, only four kennels deep and this chunky, freckled pup with a patch over his eye wiggles his way over to say hello. He sits, leans into the fence, and looks at me with these humanistic brown eyes, begging for attention; I swoon, so much for window shopping.

It has been a year now, and he’s lost all his baby fat, but is just as patchy and freckled as the day he came home. This pup is happy from the moment he wakes up, literally, I open his crate door and he can hardly contain his excitement, shimming all over the place, trying to soak up all the love he can. Hands down, the best part of my day is coming home to my squirmy little friend. He’s always so overwhelmed with excitement and it always brings a smile to my face, instantly melting away any lingering stress. Whether I’ve been gone for 8 hours or 30 minutes, his reaction is always the same, and gets me every single time.

Arlo wants nothing more than to always be with his family, and he is constantly asking us to hold his paw while he stares longingly into our eyes. Even though he weighs 70 pounds, he loves to sit on feet and lean into you, blissfully unaware of his size or the pins and needle sensations which quickly begin to radiate up the legs. I recently started PA school in August, from the comfort of my home, and my diligent study buddy has been by my side every day. He naps more than he actually studies, but I love taking breaks to just lay with him, it helps to reduce the stress and immediately makes me feel better. The only downside is I constantly have to suppress my laughter on camera when I turn around and catch him snoring on his back, tummy dots on display, and one paw straight up in the air. Since school began, I have never been so consistently challenged physically and mentally and I am constantly overwhelmed. Luckily for me, I have the best support dog and impulse buy anyone could wish for, I have no buyer’s remorse.

Best, Chelsea
