Fetch- January 2019 President’s Letter

President’s Letter

I am fortunate.

Every day I am surrounded by people who care about companion animals and wildlife and who spend their precious time working to save the lives of those that have no voice. In 2018, we adopted out 1,036 companion animals, an all-time record at Rancho Coastal Humane Society (RCHS). At our San Diego Wildlife Center, we treated 741 sick, injured or orphaned wildlife in just eight months after opening.

As President of RCHS, I am fortunate to work with a staff that is willing to adapt to new procedures and changes in order to advance our mission.

I am fortunate that we have an amazing group of volunteers, more than 400 strong. They support our kennel staff, walk our dogs, open their homes to puppies and kittens, bag pet food, transport and help rehabilitate injured birds, sort through piles of donated merchandise, not to mention plant, weed, paint, build and do laundry. Thank you!

When the Board recommended me for this position and I left my law practice eight months ago, I didn’t realize how lucky I would be. Luck is when opportunity meets preparation and I feel I’ve been preparing for this career opportunity my entire life!  Lucky me!

As we launch into a new year, I especially want to thank our donors and loyal supporters. RCHS could not exist for 58 years without you. Our Thrift Shop couldn’t thrive for 50 years without you.

This issue of Fetch gives you a glimpse into just some of what’s to come.
Bring on 2019! We are just getting started….
