Foster Tails: Fetch August 2026

Meet our Foster Volunteer Most Valuable Player Award Winner!

Every team has one player who acts as “the glue” holding the operation together. With the ever-changing situations that crop up in animal rescue and welfare, foster volunteers that are willing to “roll with the punches” are heavily sought after and irreplaceable! The foster who has come to our aid countless times and handled multiple challenging assignments with tolerance, dedication, and grace is our Foster Volunteer MVP, Annette Beaty!

Annette has been volunteering onsite and fostering for Rancho Coastal for over a decade. She is well- versed in positive reinforcement training best practices and consistently accepts dog/puppy foster assignments in need of behavioral intervention without blinking an eye. We can always count on Annette to help our scared, nervous, or shy pups come out of their shells during their time in her foster home. These pups often return to us with newfound confidence and socialization skills that impress potential adopters and get them into their forever homes even quicker.

Annette has a wealth of patience and goes at each individual dog’s pace to ensure they feel comfortable as they decompress from kennel to foster home. One such nervous pup was Arlo. Arlo was showing signs of fear, stress, and anxiety in the shelter environment. Annette took Arlo out to foster for a little R&R and worked with him on handling skills, leash walking, basic commands, and building his confidence. When he returned, he was a whole new pup! His newfound bravery helped him catch the eye of his new forever family and fur sibling. He’s now living his best life in a home of his own.

Annette is also willing to take on extreme medical cases as well as nursing moms with puppies and is not fazed by extensive medication schedules or routines. Last holiday season, she took in Joy the French Bulldog and her three puppies, who were all in rough shape and in need of extensive medical care. The little family is now living in loving forever homes.

Today, Annette is currently fostering Boom Chocolatta, a lively 2-year-old spaniel mix with intricate medical and behavioral needs. Annette maintains Boom’s specialized diet with precision and accuracy, keeps his medication regimen on track, drives him to and from medical appointments, and has an unending amount of patience when it comes to training him to be the best version of himself. When Annette is unable to care for Boom in her home, she donates her time almost daily to work on his training skills here in our kennels, so he continues to make progress on his manners.

Thank you for fostering, Annette! You are truly an MVP in our books!
