President’s Letter – July 2021

Dear RCHS Friends and Family,

Greetings from the East Coast!  “Sideways” rain, thunder, lightning, humidity and a hurricane named Elsa – so many things that remind me why I left for Southern California thirty (30) years ago. Some say, “You can never go home again!”  I say, “You SHOULD never go home again!”  Love my family (okay, in small doses), but miss my RCHS family (in a big way)!

It was a spectacular June at the shelter – 93 adoptions – better even than June of 2019!  Rancho Coastal Humane Society (RCHS) has exceeded its targets after re-opening on June 5th.  Our kennels are full, our volunteers are back, and our fosters are caring for the “young ones” while we wait for them to grow strong, become socialized and available for adoption. Kids are enjoying summer in our Animal Camps, and the Pet Assisted Therapy program finally has some locations to visit!

We are being asked daily to help overcrowded shelters in San Diego, Imperial, Riverside, Orange and Los Angeles Counties. You can help RCHS help them! If you were considering adding a new member to your fur family, now is the ideal time! If you have not begun to travel, sign up as a kitten or puppy foster – we can use some help managing the overflow! If your supervisor told you that you could continue to work from home – where you are more productive and less distracted – schedule some of your “free time” as a RCHS Volunteer Ambassador, welcoming families who arrive at our gates full of hope that they will find their furever companions!  We have returned to the television studios for live coverage, and we need volunteers to handle the dogs on camera. TV media brings dogs into viewers’ homes during morning hour broadcasts, and the spotlight brings potential adopters to the shelter.

Stay local and spend the summer with RCHS! I have learned my lesson, and I am coming home!
