We’re Solar Powerful!
There’s not a week that goes by without a guest to your Rancho Coastal Humane Society saying, “That’s great that your play yards are covered! That must help keep the animals cool!”
Yes, those covers over the exercise yards do protect the dogs and rabbits from the sun, but that’s in addition to the power they generate. Those are solar panels.
When RCHS installed solar panels the funds that previously went to pay the electric bill were shifted to provide medical care, buy humane education materials, and bring other areas of the shelter up to date.
When we added the Cattery in 2008 we more than doubled our capacity for adoptable cats. That meant we could save more lives and match more families with their new cats and kittens, but it took more power.
We recently had the inverters of our 15-year-old solar power system upgraded. With the improvements, we can track the amount of energy it’s producing.
Matt Gentile is Facilities Manager for Rancho Coastal Humane Society. He says special thanks goes to our animal loving friends Mark Gipe and John Perez at Solar Electric Works for their time and attention. It wasn’t just a job to them.
Also a shout out to Shazeebo for the shade structures in the exercise yards and the new Catio Cat Café.
There’s still more work to be done. After all these years, the solar panels need to be replaced. We’re in the process of raising funds for this next phase of updates.
As we’re approaching the end of 2019, please make Rancho Coastal Humane Society your charity of choice for a year-end, tax-deductible donation.
Thank you for your contribution to Rancho Coastal Humane Society where Every Animal Deserves a Tomorrow®.
