Summer Camp Opens This Month!
Rancho Coastal Humane Society (RCHS) opened in 1960 with two main goals:
- Rescue homeless animals and match pets with new families.
- Teach families to care for their pets and respect the animals that lived in the area.
Now, 60 years later, the cornerstone programs of RCHS are still Pet Adoptions and Humane Education.
This year Humane Educator Lizzie Hart reluctantly cancelled Spring Animal Camp, hoping to recover in time to start Summer Animal Camp. The spring brought waves of concerns about COVID-19 continued, so summer was in jeopardy and the first weeks in June were postponed in an abundance of caution.
Sometimes good things sneak in through a door you didn’t know you left open. That’s what happened when we were asked to team up with Encinitas Charities Consulting Group for the “Science & Sports Academy” from July 13 – 31. It’s a virtual, camp-style program for students K – 8. Families buy tickets and receive 15 hours of academic and wellness content.
Each ticket also pays for a scholarship for an underprivileged student. Select RCHS as your referring organization and we get 80% of every ticket.

Summer Animal Camp is now scheduled to run July 20th through August 21st. Lizzie has strict COVID-19 protocols in place and a reduced number of campers. Spots for camp were filled just hours after posting on the website!
Check out our website for when we can start offering our other Youth Programs that are now on COVID-19 hold. We hope to be able to offer tours, birthday parties, our reading programs and Kids Community Service sometime soon.
We often wonder what RCHS Founder Maria K. Lloyd would think if she visited the shelter today. We think she would be proud that we remain true to her vision.
We continue every day to make your Rancho Coastal Humane Society a place where Every Animal Deserves a Tomorrow®.
