Fetch – January 2019 – Thrift Shop
Let’s see you top that!
Poor Brian Cook, Manager of your Rancho Coastal Humane Society Thrift Shop at 120 Aberdeen Drive in Cardiff by the Sea. He always needs more display space, even though he’s expanded the Thrift Shop several times during the past few years.
Construction closed Chesterfield Drive…the street that connects the Thrift Shop to the beach over Pacific Coast Highway. No difference. Business is booming.
At the end of December Brian locked himself in his office. Other Brian, Linda, and Erin were supposed to be standing guard to make sure nobody interrupted Brian, but they were busy petting Chili, a dog who had just been adopted from RCHS. His owner was at the Thrift Shop buying dog supplies.
By the time Brian came bursting out, Other Brian had left to pick up some donations, Linda was helping a customer in the clothing department who was there to use the Thrift Shop gift card he got for Christmas, and Erin was in the furniture and housewares sections, decorating for Valentine’s Day.
Brian could hardly contain his excitement when he announced to anyone within hearing distance,
“During December, the Thrift Shop had $104,000 in sales. That’s the highest total EVER in December and second only to sales in November. We’re on track for $1.2 million in sales by the end of the fiscal year. Which is somewhere between amazing and ridiculously amazing on the achievement scale!”
Theresa and some volunteers were sorting through shoes, men’s suits, and a large box of red Valentine dresses. Several customers had now gathered in the Electronics section to tell Chili dog, “Good boy!” Other Other Brian (who spells his name with a “y” as in “Bryan” and has been nicknamed by our President as “whyBryan”) was in the Sporting Goods section trying on a pair of skis. That was quite a sight. Right across from the beach, wearing shorts and a Hawaiian shirt, and trying on snow skis.
Nothing dampens Brian’s spirits….even when everyone ignores his great news. “Every donation and every item sold helps the animals. That’s why we’re here. It’s why the Thrift Shop was opened 59 years ago. The money raised at the Thrift Shop helps people and animals when they need it most. Every animal deserves a tomorrow.” ®
