One Surgery Down. One to Go. Please help us help Bubba

Bubba was a stray dog who was taken to one of our rescue partners in Riverside County. He was adopted then returned with a note that said, “Amazing dog, not great with cats, deserves lots of love”. That was followed by a call explaining that the cats had been aggressive and distressed.

Fast-forward…Bubba, a 2-1/2 year old, 87 pound, Labrador Retriever mix, arrived at your Rancho Coastal Humane Society last September. He had an off-and-on limp. Tests revealed that Bubba had a ruptured Cruciate ligament on his left hind leg. We raised nearly $3,000 dollars and scheduled his surgery in December. He went into foster care. Eight weeks later Bubba was feeling better than he had in a long time.

As he became more active he began limping on his right side. It was the same problem that he had on his left side. Dr. Moews says that’s not unusual. Dogs with an injury begin to favor the other side, causing the same issue they’re already experiencing.

So, here we are. This large, enthusiastic dog who has already survived living on the street, being adopted and returned, and major surgery, needs your help.

Medical Director Kathy Zerkle says that Bubba’s surgery could cost $3,000. That’s a lot of money for a non-profit animal shelter. If we totally deplete the Medical fund, it would leave us helpless in the event of another medical emergency.

Kathy says one of the best things that can happen is for Bubba to be adopted and recover from his surgery in his new home. His forever home. The home he deserves.

They’re so innocent. They’re so trusting. No matter what’s going on with them, whether they’re in pain, how many times owners made bad decisions that hurt them….they want to be closer. They want to sit on our laps. (Even if they weigh 87 pounds.)

Your donation to your Rancho Coastal Humane Society’s Medical Fund can help get Bubba the treatment he needs. The treatment that will change his life.
