The Thrift Shop is Going to the Dogs. And who’s that Clown?

Things get “unusual” after Valentine’s Day at your Rancho Coastal Humane Society Thrift Shop at 120 Aberdeen Drive in Cardiff by the Sea. The weather is weird. Donations are still coming in, but people can’t figure out whether it’s time to buy spring clothing, bicycles, and boogie boards or stick with their cold weather gear and skis.

We dropped by to visit Thrift Shop Manager Brian Cook. Passing through the Jewelry department we were greeted by Sparky. He’s a regular guest. He dragged his person into the Thrift Shop for a treat.

We heard happy voices in the Home Décor section of the Thrift Shop so we headed that direction thinking Brian might be causing the commotion. We were about to bite down on a strawberry that was in a bowl on a dining room table when we realized that it was ceramic. Close call.

There was a guy sitting in a rocking chair in the Furniture department strumming on a guitar that he just bought from the Music section.

Other Brian had just returned with a truck load of donations picked up earlier that morning. He had a couch, matching end tables, a big screen TV, a couple wet suits, and a box that contained a really cute table decoration.

Hey Other Brian. Have you seen Brian?

“That clown? Go up past women’s and children’s clothing and make a right. He was setting up a display by the books and CD section.”

Why did Other Brian call Brian a Clown? There he was wearing a funny hat, big white shoes, and a bright orange tie. He was setting up this display.

Yep. Kind of a clown. But a clown with a heart of gold. As he reminds us, the money raised at the Thrift Shop helps people and animals when they need it most. Thank you for supporting your Rancho Coastal Humane Society where we believe Every Animal Deserves a Tomorrow. ®

As we walked out the door we heard him yell, “Hey! Let’s see how many of us we can jam into the Thrift Shop van!”
