Zandra Rhodes “Wiggles and Waggles” Fashion Show Luncheon

The only fur allowed was shed by our pets

We wish you could have seen our expressions when your Rancho Coastal Humane Society’s President, Judi Sanzo, announced to the staff that Zandra Rhodes….THE Zandra Rhodes….wanted to hold a fashion show for us!

The people, pets, and wildlife served by your Rancho Coastal Humane Society (RCHS) were the beneficiaries when world-renowned fashion designer Dame Zandra Rhodes presented the first “Wiggles and Waggles” fashion show luncheon on Tuesday, February 26th at the Del Mar Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe.

RCHS Director of Donor and Community Relations Kelly Peters says, “It took a while for the idea to sink in. Fashion designer Zandra Rhodes is recognized worldwide. Zandra spends some of the year in Del Mar, and she graciously offered to lend her fame to promote a Rancho Coastal Humane Society event.”

People recognize Zandra Rhodes as a fashion designer. Zandra Rhodes designed clothing for Elizabeth Taylor, Lauren Bacall, and Princess Diana. Freddie Mercury and Brian May of Queen visited Zandra’s studio under cover of darkness to choose costumes in 1974. This year she’s celebrating “50 Fabulous Years of Design” by publishing a fabulous book.  In September, Prince Albert will open a Zandra Rhodes Exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London.

Kelly Peters tells us, “Some of our Rancho Coastal Humane Society supporters got to meet Zandra a few months ago when she was a guest at our Celebration of Second Chances. Zandra learned about all the work we’re doing to help pets and people. Shortly after that, Zandra proposed that we collaborate on the “Wiggles & Waggles” Fashion Show.

The models for Wiggles and Waggles included staff members, volunteers and even a few pets from RCHS. They wore clothing created by Zandra. One of the jokes at the Fashion Show Luncheon was that it was the first time we saw some of the models wearing anything other than Rancho Coastal Humane Society t-shirts or volunteer aprons.

It’s not too late if you would like to make a donation to help cover expenses. For more information visit Rancho Coastal Humane Society at 389 Requeza Street in Encinitas, call 760-753-6413, or log on to
