Helping Seniors with the High Cost of Veterinary Care

You probably know someone who needs this new program at Rancho Coastal Humane Society. As you read this story, please think about who you can help by sharing this information.

When Colette Licata joined our team, she was excited about our new program that provides veterinary care assistance for low-income seniors. We knew there was a need to fill.

Colette tells us, “Bobbi is a 70-year-old who rescued a 7-year-old, female, Morkie (Maltese / Yorkshire Terrier) named Lula. Lula had been wandering the streets with no identification and no microchip. Bobbi adored Lula and wanted to keep her. But then she learned that Lula had a mammary tumor and needed surgery.”

Money is tight. Bobbi and her 74-year-old husband, who has Alzheimer’s Disease, are on social security. They live in low-income housing. But they also LOVE Lula.

When Bobbi heard about our new Veterinary Care Program for Seniors she contacted Colette and asked if RCHS could help. Colette says, “I received Bobbi’s application and the veterinarian sent me an estimate for how much it would cost. The request was approved immediately.” Rancho Coastal Humane Society also microchipped Lula and provided her registration for one year.

“Oh, my goodness!” was Bobbi’s response. “I can’t thank you enough for covering my dear Lula’s vet bill for her surgery!! I am beside myself with relief and appreciation. What a wonderful thing you have done for this sweet dog. Please know that I am grateful from the very bottom of my heart! Oh, and Lula also says thank you! I’ve scheduled her surgery and am focused on all going well and a speedy recovery for my little fur child. Thank you, thank you!!”

We all probably know someone who can benefit from this program. Applicants must:
