What Type are You? Or are You a Little Bit of Both?

We’ve met all types of people since your Rancho Coastal Humane Society opened 59 years ago. The most obvious are the cat people, dog people and bunny people.

Some volunteers and staff members work in the office while others prefer to be out in the kennels, cattery, rabbitat, or at the Community Pet Food Bank, Thrift Shop, or taking therapy dogs to visit extended care facilities, schools and libraries.

People have specific opinions about how we describe our progress and how we’re using their donations of time, talents and money.

One longtime supporter told us she isn’t concerned about how we spent the money she donates. RCHS is the highest-rated animal shelter in southern California with a 4-star rating and a perfect Charity Navigator score of 100. We’re doing it right. She trusts us.

Another donor said he wasn’t interested in stories about a particular adoption or a kid’s experience in Animal Camp. He wanted numbers. How did RCHS become one of only five animal shelters in the United States to earn 100 points? What are we doing better than other non-profits with lower scores?
